Recovering from an injury isn’t just about waiting for the pain to go away. Here are three common mistakes that can slow your recovery and increase your risk of re-injury and here is how Bespoke can help you.
1. Not Enough Strength Training
Pain often settles before your body has fully recovered. Strength training helps rebuild the capacity of muscles, tendons, and ligaments so they can handle the demands of daily life, work, and sport. The majority of re-injures we see when people return to sport is usually due to a lack of strength around the injured area. Once you have seen a physio for your injury you can chat to them about joining one of our strength classes. Either beginning with Mat or Reformer Pilates and then moving through into Strength classes or jumping straight into Weights classes if you can. Our team will be able to help you.
2. Under-Nutrition
Your body needs energy and nutrients to heal! Eating too little—especially protein—can slow recovery and reduce the benefits of rehabilitation. Recovery is hard work, so make sure you’re fueling it properly with plenty of nutrition.
3. Returning Too Soon
Getting back to sport or exercise too quickly is a common setback. Even if symptoms have improved, your body may not be ready for full activity. A gradual return helps reduce the risk of re-injury and supports long-term success. Our Physiotherapists are highly experienced in this area who can help to guide you back to doing what you love. We will discuss a thorough treatment plan with you to give you some indications of when it is safe or right for you to return to sport.
